Entertainment centers are furniture pieces built to house your television and other related components. They are usually the focal point of the room because of their size and presence, making them an ideal place to add interest with creative décor. A blank entertainment center is just as distracting as one overstuffed with accessories. Create harmony and balance in this piece of modern style living room furniture that will complement the style, colors and theme of the room.
Collections. Display your collections on the shelves surrounding your television. Avoid over the shelves with heavy items, though, as they might fall or break your TV. If you have a contemporary style room, display the black statues ad black vases on a white entertainment center like the Emma Entertainment Center by Casabianca. You can also do the opposite and display white items on a black entertainment center like the Black " CONNECT-IT " 60"L TV Console by Monarch Specialties.
Color. Add color to your entertainment center to brighten your area. You can also use this to tie it with the color scheme of the room. Paint the back wall of the entertainment center the same color as the walls to give it a built-in look or in a bright color to frame neutral-toned objects. If you do not want to paint, use colorful storage boxes, picture frames, artwork, vases and flowers.
Lighting. Putting general lighting, such as decorative lamps, right next to the TV will help soften the lights so it is easier for your eyes when you watch TV. Accent lights and spot lights draw attention to decorative items that you want to highlight, like pictures or sculpture. Install lights inside the entertainment center to point down at specific shelves, or put them on top or hanging above the entertainment center. Install track lights on the ceiling above the entertainment center as well.
Storage. Storing your media in the entertainment center only makes sense because this is where you will most likely use your DVDs and other media. Go with an entertainment center with built-in storage like the Brooklyn 60'' TV Console by Nexera. This should be a great place to hide your media because it has drawers and doors. Otherwise, you can use decorative boxes, baskets or other containers to close off your media and not disrupt your decor.
Every shelf on your entertainment center can hold its own small collection or single piece of you would rather display a variety of things. For instance, add a small group of vases on a couple of shelves with floral arrangements, candles, family photos, and a small collection of knickknacks. If each of the items falls in the same basic color scheme, they should all look connected and will work with your décor. As much as possible, add some sort of greenery or foliage, like a garland of ivy on top of the entertainment center or a couple of houseplants in baskets at the bottom.
